There are perhaps a dozen paddle board brands worth knowing and several hundred that exist only as a logo printed on the same factory board.
The difference is not always visible in a listing photo. It shows up in the core construction, in whether anyone answers an email in year two, and in whether the shape was designed or copied.
This page sorts the names you will actually run into: who makes what, who sells where, and which of them is worth paying more for.

Fanatic came out of windsurfing in 1981 and brought four decades of shape development with it. The Fly Air is the all round model, the Ray Air the tourer, and the Sky Air the performance board. It sells through watersports dealers rather than Amazon in the United States, which is why we wrote a separate guide to Fanatic boards and the alternatives.
BOTE is the American answer to that: proper in house design, its own construction names, and an accessory ecosystem of magnetic cup holders and rail mounts that sounds silly until you use it. Prices start where most Amazon boards stop, and the boards show up in our touring comparison.
Red Paddle Co and Starboard belong in the same conversation and neither sells through Amazon. If you see either name on a marketplace listing at a budget price, it is not the brand you think it is.
The mid tier that most people should buy from
Bluefin SUP is British, sells directly, and built its reputation on packages that include everything with a five year warranty behind the board. THURSO SURF is the brand to know if you want premium construction without a premium badge. Woven drop stitch cores and heat welded rails on boards that sell on Amazon at half what the specialist brands charge. Our Waterwalker review covers the all round model.

Decathlon Itiwit deserves its own sentence. No brand delivers more board per unit of money, and the range runs from the entry level X100 up to racing hulls. We have reviewed the X100 11 ft and the X500 13 ft, along with most of the Itiwit accessory range.
The volume brands
Aqua Marina is the biggest name most paddlers have never consciously chosen. Dozens of models, wide European distribution, and a habit of covering every niche from yoga to whitewater. The Beast and the Fusion are the two you will see most often, and our Aqua Marina guide ranks the range.
Roc sells more inflatable boards on Amazon than anyone. The specification is modest, the shape is the standard 10 ft 6 all round, and the reason to buy one is that the company answers the phone and the spares fit. It anchors our cheap board comparison.
FunWater, SereneLife, Niphean and iTAOSTAR occupy the same space: decent recreational boards, complete packages, no dealer network. Judge them on the specification rather than the name, because the name means very little.
The smaller brands worth knowing
WOWSEA builds noticeably better boards than its prices suggest, and the range is coherent rather than scattergun. The Trophy T1 and the FlyFish F1 are the two we rate.

Mistral is the odd one out. A genuine windsurfing name from the seventies whose paddle boards now appear in supermarket promotions, which is how the Lidl Mistral board came to exist. Good value, no dealer support, and gone from the shelves within a week.
How to judge a paddle board brand
Look for a named construction: brands that develop their own boards name what is inside them, whether that is a woven core, a carbon stringer or welded rails. Brands that resell a factory board describe it as military grade PVC and leave it there.
Check whether the range makes sense: a real brand has an all round board, a tourer and maybe a race or yoga model, each in two or three sizes. A reseller has fourteen boards that are the same shape in different colours.
Find out where the warranty is handled: a European or American company with a service address handles a leaking seam in year two. A marketplace seller with a generic name usually does not exist by then, whatever the listing promised.
Weigh brand against specification: at the bottom of the market the brand tells you almost nothing and the numbers tell you everything, so buy on capacity, dimensions and weight. At the top the numbers converge and the brand is what you are actually paying for.
Ignore heritage claims you cannot verify: plenty of listings borrow the language of windsurfing and surf culture without any connection to either. A founding date is easy to check and worth checking.
